It’s the event all Chennai is talking about- a fun-filled extravaganza for the whole family that aims to educate even as it entertains. Welcome to the Diabetes Fest 2011- the first ever event of its kind in India!
Diabetes Fest 2011 has been organized on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre- one of the pioneering organisations in diabetes care and research in India. As part of Diabetes Fest-2011, competitions have been held in the categories of painting, singing, dance, rangoli, skit, fancy dress, elocution, essay writing, cookery and fruit and vegetable carving. Separate competitions have been held for primary school, middle school, high school and college students. More than 3500 youngsters from 150 institutions have participated in these events, which have been going on for the past three months. The competitions have been judged by leading luminaries in the concerned fields and points awarded to the prize-winning institutions.
The formal announcement of the results of the competitions and the distribution of prizes will take place at the Awards Ceremony of Diabetes Fest-2011, which will be held on Friday, the 25th of November 2011 at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam, Chennai. This mega event full of glitz and glamour promises to be an unforgettable evening of fun, frolic and learning for all the contestants as well as their families. Eminent celebrities from the field of show business and sports will take part in this event, handing over the prizes to the winners and inspiring the young achievers to even greater heights. Nearly 150 prizes will be distributed during this gala event including the prestigious Dr. Rema Mohan Trophy for Prevention of Diabetes, which will be presented to the school and college that have obtained the highest points.
Photographs of all the participants in Diabetes Fest-2011 will be put up for public viewing during the Awards Ceremony. The Painting Gallery will showcase the work of the young artists who have lent colour to the show. Participation Certificates will also be distributed to all the youngsters who have taken part in the various competitions. They can also exchange their gift coupons for free gift hampers.
The Awards Ceremony promises something for every member of the family. Children of all ages will find hours of enjoyment at the Diabetes Carnival, with a wide array of activities and games. They can shake a leg at the Dance Choreography Corner or try their luck at the lucky draw pot. They can also get up close and personal with their favourite stars! Parents, teachers and other adults need not feel left out, either. They can learn more about diabetes at the Educational Stalls, get their blood sugar tested at the Screening Counter, or browse for shoes at the Footwear Shoppe. All this activity is bound to make one hungry- do not fret, there is a multicuisine Food Court serving lip-smacking delicacies, which can recharge one’s batteries for the exciting evening ahead. Sugar- free sweets and other health products will also be available.
The Blue Ring, which is the international symbol of diabetes, will be represented at the Awards Ceremony by a Blue Wheel on which one and all can record their support in the fight against diabetes.
The Awards Ceremony of Diabetes Fest-2011 will be a landmark event in the history of diabetes awareness in Chennai. Through their participation in the events of Diabetes Fest-2011, children and young adults will be sensitized to the magnitude of the diabetes epidemic in India. They will learn the ways and means of preventing the spread of this epidemic, in a totally informal and fun-filled way. Through these young ambassadors, we feel the message of diabetes prevention will spread far and wide and thereby help in halting this silent killer in its tracks.
